Hi, i have an octatrack and i use it a lot paired with IPADs. I found a good setup: I use an iconnectivity audio4+, AUM encapsuled in AudioBus3 and use my launchpad X to trigger recording with LOOPY HD. With Loopy HD you can choose on the fly the lenght of your records. For me this is the closest way to approach the Octatrack recording style. If [STOP] has been pressed, pressing [STOP] again will unlink all patterns in the chain.

Octatrack live recording

Once you have a recording you like, open the Audio Editor and save a copy to the Compact Flash. Clear the recording buffer 1 of any recordings. Switch Track 1 over to a Static track and select the sample you just saved. The best use of recorder buffers is for looping and live sampling tricks. Might take a minute to wrap your head around it but the advantage is that you do not need to save them. 12.3 RECORDING MODES The Octatrack MKII offers two main modes of inputting trigs when creating a pattern, GRID RECORDING mode and LIVE RECORDING mode.

The Octatrack is based around x0x/Electribe-style step sequencing rather than the sample pads and real-time MIDI recording found on MPCs, Roland SPs and the like. I wanted to make that process portable to do it live, and found a solution with the Octatrack, using chord ‘sample chains’ (single files containing a number of equal sized samples) that it automatically splits into up to 64 slices.
